Brief Description

The Cybercrimes Act was enacted in 2021 to create offences which have a bearing on cybercrime; to criminalise the disclosure of data messages which are harmful and to provide for interim protection orders amongst others. It provides an opportunity to protect the dignity of women from cybercrime practices such as gender trolling, threats and image based sexual abuse. Under part two on malicious communications, it explicitly denounces the disclosure of intimate images without the person’s consent, including "if [the person] is a female person, transgender person or intersex person".
